Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook 8.0.2. Interim Fix 2

New interim fix for Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook 8.0.2 Update, issued on November 12 2008.
Personally, I had already tested version 8.0.2 with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and with Microsoft Outlook 2007, appreciating the significant improvement in stability and performance.

There are corrections for errors generated in Windows Vista, some problems with some characters when sending mail via SMTP and more.

Lotus Notes 8.0.2 Standard Client Interim Feature Release 1 (IFR1).New!

After the last interim fix CCH1 for Lotus Notes 8.0.2 Client Standard, IBM release this new one about the integrated Sametime client.
To implement this new IFR1 interim fix, you must have previously uninstalled interim fix CCH1.
Here is a summary of what is proper about new functions and how to install it.

The interim fix isn't provided with an exe file, but it need of manual installation. Link here for full details.

Lotus Notes 8.0.2 CCH1 cfix for Windows .Install it as soon as possible!

During the daily tour on IBM Fix Central, I found a fix for CCH1 Client 8.0.2 standard and having occasional problems, such as blocking, scroll bar that hangs so, I proceeded to install it.
It seems that everything works fine!.

Collaboration without boundaries : Lotus Vs Competition meeting in Padova, Italy.

Meeting very interesting and rich in content devoted to a wide audience ranging from customer to more of the specialized IT Manager, Project Manager, IT Processor.
The event, which is a resumption date updated fact that in Milan some time ago, is a moment of reflection, perhaps enjoy customer company, where you can experience all aspects related to the IBM Collaboration through all products now known, but not yet exploited well as Lotus Domino / Notes, Lotus Quickr, Lotus Sametime, Lotus Connections, Lotus Symphony and Websphere Portal.

This is one of my favorite slides, which use very often with my clients, and that is part of the introduction of Emily.

I do not want to enter the technical merit of events (I leave you to read the slide that are truly complete), but only express the perceived positive air during the event, which in these times of negative economic conditions, it is difficult to see a optimistic future.

The two excellent speakers IBM Emily O. Farmer and Mark A. Moore has alternated presenting the different areas where you can place the various IBM's products compared with competitor Microsoft, both with traditional slides with live demonstrations.
As already happened in Milan in the last edition, the method of comparing the technical and economic value of the two competitors, was very serious, clear and not explicitly partisan, that it has done a comparison of features and pricing in a very relaxed atmosphere .

What I noticed was the interest of the participants, many who remained until the end, and otherwise after Milan were able to see live demonstrations of Lotus Connection 2 and Portal 6.1 (update of the previous event) . Their comments were hot, roughly, on the formula adopted by these types of mobile workshops, namely, first to explain clearly and immediately after a demo in context with frequent targeted just heard, thereby giving the fluidity of the event, allowing so a detailed presentation from Emily and immediately after the live demo from Mark. All in a straightforward and easy to perceive by the customer.

I must point out, also, that was introduced in the presentation slides,Lotus Foundations as evident in the new house IBM.

The presentations that I liked the most were those relating to Lotus Connections 2.0, explained and demonstrated very clearly, and finally, the session on the Portal 6.1, with practical examples related to the development of portlets and Dasboard, and the new Site Builder, which allows you to create customized portal areas very easily and quickly.

One day, therefore, I am sure that he has fulfilled any, and the formula proposed by IBM event, and winning is certainly tested by time.

Continue ads on the Lotus Foundation solution, and, again, are really interesting.
As reported in Channel Web review, the most important is the fact the core of Lotus Foundations, will be able to install, even create, the vmware, where, consequently you can install other operating systems, such as , Windows.
The news was long in the air, and official confirmation from IBM, certainly gives a broad view in the short term, the usability and employability of Foundations not only for the services currently available (you can see my presentation ) ,but also to new horizons of integration with existing today.
Having short, join the beta program for this new feature, you will be updated, as I will be granted, new expectations about virtualization.
Anoteher interesting is the core into a flash memory, so on disks crash, the system is always on.
Certainly, such as Lotus Quickr, Lotus Sametime, and perhaps the Portal Express Foundation in infrastructure, can only make me think well beyond what has been done so far.

Notes/Domino 8.0/8.0.1 : Certificate warning does not prompt

Today, I and my colleague Michele we had an alert from a custome about the fact that it was note reported the expiration of certificates of users.
As you know, once the certificate expires, there is no more chance from the user to access the Domino server, and therefore it has an operating block.

There seemed very strange that there could be a problem blocking, and we thought immediately that this was impossbile.

However, after several searches on the support Notes/Domino we found the following document and we immediately checked the incrimanated version of Domino : 8.0 and 8.0.1. In fact, our client has not yet migrated the new version 8.0.2 (we will soon!).
With the Domino/Notes 8.0.2 the problem has been fixed with:

SPR # AALZ7E9QX5 - Fixed initialization policy of certificate expiration warning days. (fix 8.0.2).

So remember this if you install Notes/Domino 8.0 or Notes/Domino 8.0.1.

IBM Lotus Foundations Start : I see you at SMAU 2008

It continues to talk about Lotus Foundations Start (and lookat this interesting video) at full throttle so that the SMAU 2008, the oldest and famous Italian exhibition fair (and others), IBM Italy in the day Friday, 17 October 2008 in Milan, presents in the plenary hall of Hall 2 at 14:30 the event "Lotus Foundations: The integrated software solution for SMB, the winning proposition for BP."

Davide Pannuto,IBM Italia, will present to participants the characteristics and placement in the Italian market.
After the event of Domimopoint Day 2, where I held a session dedicated to Lotus Foundations Start, I had the pleasure of meeting, in addition to professionals, including my clients, present at the whose first spoke and held on October 10 2008 in Milan, which, though already equipped with Domino, Portal, etc have glimpsed the potential of Lotus Foundations Start even for their small business partners and suppliers.
So, what I mean is that Lotus Foundations Start continues increasingly to be understood and appreciated, and this is the result of continuing to talk about it day after day. In Italy, IBM started the market campaign on national media, and the first results will start to see.
For those in the area, this is one of event absolutely can not miss because there will be Ozzy Papić, one of the co-founder of the product that will show live installation and more and can interact directly with him.
I will be in the area and will be a good reason to prepare and exchange ideas with you.

Dominopoint Day 2 : the day after!

Hello guys.
Even this year Dominopoint, in its second edition ended. I have not yet taken over completely and I must say that was heavier than last year.
The organization, new speakers, customers and many others, have helped to ensure that everything is done in the best possible way.
The day of preparation, Thursday Oct. 9, was exhausting, but in the end we were all happy and ready for the next day: October 10 2008.
The turnout was high right now and is already at 9.00 filled the main hall.

After the usual opening session from Daniele Grillo, Giuseppe Grasso and Claudio Meregalli, we are open sessions, which this year were parallel: Development and Administration.
Everything has been done better and already at the end of the first sessions the enthusiasm of the public felt already in the air.
Open coffee for those who wanted to rest during the sessions do not stop, and eventually the break for an excellent lunch, served up this year (last year we were comfortably seated at the table ... but we were at least 150 less).
Work resumed at 14.10 till 18.30, after closing and awards participants with 2 lucky BlackBerry, we have drawn on the lobby sofas, and we decided to go (although we stayed only in 8) the last hours of Day still together. We talked a little of everything that we lived in these two days, and we also had Jamie Magee, the speaker arrived overseas (USA) and I had already had occasion to listen to ILUG 2008, in Dublin. Jamie, that speaks a little bit of italian, is a really smart guy and is already thinking about the Dominopoint Day 3 (which will take place on October 23th 2009).
The feedback for these two days, is certainly very positive, from all points of view. In particular claim to know the new guys that have thrown in the melee, with their excellent presentations, it is that there are people who want to get in debates. I thank Marianna, Giuseppe (known like Bucci), Fabio, Cristian and Vincenzo.
And finally, beyond the excellent organization of Daniel, Claudio and Giuseppe, a warm thanks to David Pannuto (IBM Italy), which is generous with a passion truly commendable, and then all of you to the public, without which it would not have had all this way.

Portal Server 6.1.0.1 Beta 1 :IBM is working well!

We have just started to use Portal Server 6.1 and already has been released a new Beta version and features that we expected with the first issue. Really fantastic!.
The new WPS 6.1.0.1 beta is public and downloadable at the following address , and is available in a Suse Sles Vmware, then ready for use.

The major new features in addition to those already in the official version of Portal 6.1 are:

New features introduced in this WebSphere Portal and Lotus Web Content Management V6.1.0.1 Beta 1 update release include support for:

WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 7.0 (toleration level support as the underlying Application Server)
IBM DB2 9.5
Oracle 11g R1 11.1.0.6

I must acknowledge the effort of IBM in recent times with regard to technology issues, we are helping a lot, especially giving the opportunity to participate actively in beta Programs. Soon my impression, especially with regard WCM (Web Content Management).

I take this opportunity to remind everyone of the appointment of Dominopoint Day 2, where the legendary Daniele Vistalli held a session on its Portal 6.1! There will certainly anticipating some interesting, and I have to be captured into a mega show!.

Lotus Quickr 8.1 Fixpack 1 for Lotus Domino

After so many HF finally the first Fixpack 1 for Windows that brings together all the previous releases HF.

Interestingly, the long list of fixes in this first Fixpack, which finally closes the regular releases which were normal. I gave a reading fast and the feeling was that having done a good job, especially for the connector and integration office.

Mancano ormai 17 giorni al DOminopoint Day 2, e siamo tutti molto impegnati per la sua riuscita.
Anche quest'anno parteciperò come relatore con un'argomento che esula dalle mie normali attività lavorative quotidiane, ma in cui credo molto : Lotus Foundations !. Ormai da mesi lo stiamo analizzando, provando e anche cercando di venderlo. Non è poi così difficile, basta avere quella che si chiama "pazienza", ma che lo stress da business non riesce più a capire.

Molte volte i nuovi prodotti, oltre che a dover maturare tecnologicamente, devono anche maturare nelle menti dei possibili clienti.
Vi aspetto numerosi il 10 Ottobre 2008, per un'appuntamento unico e che spero possa ripetersi ogni anno.

Missing 17 days now to Dominopoint Day 2, and we are all very committed to its success.
Also attending this year as speaker with an argument that goes beyond my normal daily work activities, but where I think a lot: Lotus Foundations!. For months now we are investigating, trying and trying to sell it. It is not so difficult as one has what is called "patience", but stress that business can no longer understand.
Many times the new products as well as having a mature technology, have also matured in the minds of potential customers.
We expect many on 10 October 2008, for an appointment only and that I hope will happen every year.

DOLS in a cluster environments..and not only!

With the release of Domino / Notes 8.0.2 and the next release of Domino / Notes 8.5, iNotes (the web mail Lotus Domino) is returning to the fore. For those who do not know yet (and I hope are in short), Domino, through the DOLS (Domino Off Line Services), it installs in the engine which allows me to use the disconnected iNotes web mail via browser. In addition, through replication of Domino, keep the subscription (virtually replicate local) of the mail file updated. DOLS is also applicable to other Domino applications, such as Quickr's places.

Last week we met at a customer with the problems relating to a reporting error DOLS (Domino Off Line Services) when, downloaded and installed the subscription is trying to replicate with the following results:

The remote server is not a known TCP / IP host

which corresponds to a Synchronization failure. This occurs because the synchronization service according to the document of local connection can not reach Domino server.

Since in our cluster configuration, this is not happening, my colleague Michele Peschechera, made further checks and, also using an IBM document "Unable to Synchronize when Offline Connection Document Contains IP Address" has reached the following conclusion ( not discovering anything new, but properly interperetando our configuration and the score):
The customer has installed in a cluster on separate network cards, as well must be to have a cluster optimized and performed (we had the cluster on the same card ...!), then the solution:

Solution

It goes to manually change the configuration on the local client notes
You should remove the following item on the server notes.ini

TCPIP_TCPIPAddress

that is not always feasible, especially in the presence of cluster configuration on a double sheet.

Then there is an additional parameter to be added notes.ini on the server.Alternatively, an administrator can configure these settings for all the subscriptions hosted on a particular server by adding addresses to the $ DOLS_TCPIPAddress and $ DOLS_TCPIPAddress2 settings in the server's notes.ini.

Example

$ DOLS_TCPIPAddress = srvdomino.acme.local
$ DOLS_TCPIPAddress2 = webmail.acme.com

The synchronization service on the client will attempt to sequence the two addresses.

As always in notes.ini there are answers to many questions .. This is nothing new, but it should be remembered for ever.

Lotus Notes 8.5 for Mac : recall about beta 2

A short time ago I made a post that spoke of my experience on the implementation of client Lotus Notes 8.5. beta 1 on Mac with a customer.
Today I learned by the person who follows the customer, Alessio Torresan, who have updated their Mac with beta 2, and they are very satisfied with regard to performance both during the initial opening of the Client and about the applications performance they normally use.

An anomaly that we found, and that was also present in beta 1, is that in some cases are altered some parts of the application, such as navigator, which do not appear correctly. This anomaly I do not know whether it is caused by a specific Mac and its configuration in terms of graphics card, but for direct experience with Linux, though the graphics card is not configured in base mode but advanced, for example uses 3D effects or otherwise, there may be changes in the interface.
Continue inspections and you keep updated on developments, tests, waiting for the final release of version 8.5.

E' Da tempo che oltreoceano, almeno per quanto riguarda il mondo dei prodotti sw IBM, vengono periodicamente rilasciati via web degli importanti podcast (link definizione di Podcast su wikipedia.com), i cui relatori sono noti un po a tutti nell'ambiente. E molti di questi sono già da tutti voi conosciuti, come ad esempio Bruce Elgort, Carl Tyler, Paul Mooney ecc.

The last series, for us Yellow Man, is the much-waited Lotus Protector for Mail Security, as well made by the legendary Ed Brill just yesterday.
